Development Of Horticulture In Dehradun District
Abstract
Horticulture is the industry and science of plant cultivation
including the process of preparing soil for the planting of seeds, tubers, or
cuttings. Horticulturists work and conduct research in the disciplines
of plant
propagation and cultivation, crop production, breeding and genetic engineering, plant biochemistry,
and plant physiology.
The work basically involves fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables, flowers, trees, shrubs, and turf. Horticulturists work to improve crop yield, quality, nutritional value, and resistance of insects, diseases, and environmental stress. Horticulture usually refers to
gardening on a smaller scale, while agriculture refers
to the large-scale cultivation of crops.

GROWTH AND PROSPECTS OF HORTICULTURE IN DEHRADUN
DISTRICT IN THE CONTEXT OF SHIFTING ENVIRONMENTAL PATTERNS
Abstract:
The present investigation mainly deals with the
prospects of horticulture development in Dehradun district and studies the effect
of environment change on horticulture. Climate change threatens to reduce the reliability
of water supply for horticultural production. It also disrupts the chilling
cycle for specific fruits. Climate change affects horticulture and floriculture
indirectly by affecting their respective markets.
The investigation presents
a critical view of current Horticultural trends, factors that affect it
negatively and hints at the possible future outlook for Horticulture trends in
Dehradun district. It also proposes some plausible solutions to the challenges
faced by Horticulture.

An Ecosystem Approach For Appraising
Environmental Degradation And Its Impact In Dehradun Valley
Abstract
The various human activities have been largely responsible
for the environmental degradation. The global environment has
deteriorated significantly in recent decades. Environmental degradation is
considered to be one of the major threats to human welfare today. Unplanned and
non-systematic construction activities, including roads and buildings, have
been a major cause of environmental degradation in hilly terrain. Environment degradation is decay in
environmental quality and loss of biodiversity with the passage of time. It can
also be called a disturbance in the environmental components i.e. biotic and
abiotic factors of an area. Factors for this degradation are many. They may be
natural or man induced.
